Hey everybody, sorry I never write. It's not because I don't want people caught up with me, it's more because I'm barely keeping caught up with myself. I'm trying to narrow down a topic for a 5 page paper due in about a week, so as usual I'm having to eliminate everything that might possibly distract me before I can get myself to do any real work. That said, the other morning we had some very heavy rain here in Kansas City, and I was struck by how clean everything around me felt in the downpour. I was also similarly moved by the extra colors and tastes the world seemed to offer just after the rain had quit, and for the first time in a couple of years, I found myself feeling poetic. As sometimes happens, my brain tried to work in German, so in keeping with my hopes for the finding of artistic Truth, I have recorded the poem in the language it made itself known with a translation below. My thanks to Frau Doktor Lunte for correcting my initial grammatical errors.

After the rain, comes the fullness of beauty and clarity,

After the rain, mankind breathes its dreams.

After the rain, the sickness and foulness are cleansed from Earth,

After the rain, the peaceful stillness reigns.

After the rain, all things are possible,

After the rain, is Life.

few things

So, life seems to be doing okay. But there's a few hangups, and I thought, ya know what the heck, might as well write in me blog.

We leave for italy soon, I still need to learn music, and find the trumpet part for one of my pieces...and make copies.

We're terribly short on funds (the we by the way is Amy and I...not a massive ego trip). I thought I'd be able to take out a student loan since this is related to my major..what with is being a MUSIC festival..but I have to provide proof of enrollment to my university for that...so for my "private internship" I'm sol. Which means I need to apply for another type of loan..and for a lot less money..then hope we can find some nice discount attractions.

If anyone would like to make a tax deductible donation to "Matt and Amy's trip to Italy" since we're going for educational purposes, you can deduct anything you give as charitable giving. Isnt' that grand? Also, if you know of fun cheap things in Italy, zip an email or a xanga msg. We'll be based in Orvieto, but as of right now we'll be traveling to: florence, venice, assisi, arrezo, siena, and rome.

Hope all are well, and give us a ring if ya would like to get in some hang-outage before we leave. The schedule book is fairly open.

quick update

My recital is rapidly approaching, and I can't seem to memorize, or make myself work at it as hard as I should.

John Brown is going well at LOKC. I even have a little one-line bit..yay for a moment of attention..literally.

The much-anticipated Opera North rejection letter has finally come, I'm not terribly surprised at this point it didn't really matter to me anymore anyway.

that's all I've got

there was a nightwish cd in 07 with a new vocalist to replace tarja-i think the music is great and the lead vocals kinda suck

ummm, I need money for italy, so if you're interested in donating, my website is coming soon, and I'll post the url as soon as it's actually operating and not just an owned domain.

today in history...

On this day in history I have the following to pose. Who should be the head of government?

Candidate 1: Has a severe health problem which he publicly denies, has made several controversial economic decisions and is viewed by some to be reactionary and semi-dangerous in terms of policy.

Candidate 2: each day smokes several cigars, drinks a quart of brandy, and is a known womanizer.

Candidate 3: Is a decorated War Hero, eats a rigorously healthy diet, and has distinct plans to make the country a better place.

Made your decision yet?

Here's who they are:

Candidate 1 is Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Candidate 2 is Winston Churchill

Candidate 3 is Adolf Hitler

On this day in history, Hitler and the Nazi party swarmed to power in an overwhelming popular election blowout. In the midst of the current presidential campaign I would just like to encourage everyone to read the fine print on policies, and make certain that words like "national security" and "for your protection" aren't the buzzwords to the loss of our personal freedoms.

Now for a bit of usual blogging. Yes!!! I will be going to Italy this summer to spend 3 weeks in gorgeous Orvieto learning Italian and doing chamber music.

I have not yet heard about Opera North, but I was looking at updated program dates for Orvieto, and their last day isn't till July 13th, and North starts on the 8th, so if I am offered a contract with Opera North, I will have to inform them of the overlap and see if that is acceptable. I would also return late for the start of school if I do Op North as they run until Aug 23. (not that I really care, homework can wait, resume building work really can't.)

so, that is what I know. I'm back to reading for my research and bib class...lead by one of "those" professors who thinks I'm a musicology major b/c I'm in her class, even though noone in the class is a musicology major, we're all performance and conducting majors.....ugh.

additionally, if you're in the kc area next weeked (the 15th and 16th) UMKC with Village Presbyterian is presenting the St. Matthew Passion at 3:00 pm. I'm singing the bit role of the Petrus and it's a beautiful score so I'd encourage any music fan to attend. Free Admission!!!!! at Village Presbyterian in Prairie Village Kansas.
